And he asks his judges, the jurors, to be similarly single-minded, as judges ought to be: “Please consider only one thing” (18a). One is reminded of Jesus’ similarly single-minded advice to Martha: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful” (Lk 10:42). The “one thing” Socrates asks them to consider is justice, which is a kind of truth, truth about right and wrong: “Please consider only one thing and attend carefully to that—whether my plea is just or not” (18a).
